MEMORY VERSE:  As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ Gal 3:27 NRSV

TEXT: Galatians 3: 26-29; Romans 6: 3 TOPIC: YOU ARE CLOTHED WITH CHRIST

INTRODUCTION:

To put on, or to be clothed with one, is to assume the person and character of that one; and they who do so are bound to act his part, and to sustain the character which they have assumed. The profession of Christianity is an assumption of the character of Christ; he has left us an example that we should follow his steps, and we should, as Christians, have that mind in us which was in him (Phil 2: 5-9).

THE  LESSON;

Gal 3: 26That we are the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, We are the children of God; no longer servants, but sons (Rom 8: 14-17).  How did we obtain this privilege, it is by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.NIV              Verse 27 [for all of you who were baptized into Christ] All of you who have believed in Christ as the promised Messiah, and received baptism as a public proof that ye had received Christ as your Lord and Savior, have put on Christ-have received his Spirit, and entered into his interests, and copied his manners.                                                                                                           Besides, baptism is now the solemn rite of our admission into the Christian church, as circumcision was into that of the Jews. Our Lord Jesus appointed it to be so, in the commission he gave to his apostles (Matt 28:19),.

In our baptism we put on Christ; therein we profess our discipleship to him, and are obliged to behave ourselves as his faithful servants. Being baptized into Christ, we are baptized into his death, that as he died and rose again, so, in conformity thereunto, we should die unto sin, and walk in newness of life (Rom 6:3-4); it would be of great advantage to us did we oftener  remember this.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized intohisdeath?

 Every man who believes the Christian faith, and receives baptism as the proof that he believes it, and has taken up the profession of it, is bound thereby to a life of righteousness.

To be baptized into Christ, is to receive the doctrine of Christ crucified, and to receive baptism as a proof of the genuineness of that faith, and the obligation to live according to its precepts.That, as Jesus Christ in his crucifixion died completely, so that no spark of the natural life remained in his body, so those who profess faith in Him should be so completely separated and saved from sin, that they have no more connection with it, nor any more influence from it, than a dead man has with or from his departed spirit.[Were baptized] The act of baptism denotes dedication to the service of him in whose name we are baptized. One of its designs is to dedicate or consecrate us to the service of Christ: Thus (1 Cor 10:2), the Israelites are said to have been "baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;" that is, they became consecrated, or dedicated, or bound to him as their leader and lawgiver. In the place before us, the argument of the apostle is evidently drawn from the supposition that we have been solemnly consecrated by baptism to the service of Christ; and that to sin is therefore a violation of the very nature of our Christian profession.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus NIV

That this privilege of being the children of God, and of being by baptism devoted to Christ, is now enjoyed in common by all real Christians. We all stand on the same level, and are all one in Christ Jesus; as the one is not accepted on the account of any national or personal advantages he may enjoy above the other, so neither is the other rejected for the want of them; but all who sincerely believe on Christ, of what nation, or sex, or condition, so ever they be, are accepted of him, and become the children of God through faith in him.

Under the Gospel all distinctions are done away, as either helping or hindering; all are equally welcome to Christ and all have an equal need of him; all persons of all sects, and conditions, and sexes, who believe in him become one family through him; they are one body, of which he is the head.29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.NIV That, being Christ's, we are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

CONCLUSION:

In order for Christian maturity to develop in your life, you must make a choice to learn God's Word, allow God to renew your mind, and then be obedient to what you learn. While you have the freedom to make any choices you wish in life, you do not have the freedom to determine the consequences of those choices  Spiritual growth will include growth in three areas - growth in doctrine, character and ministry skills. In other words  God desires us to grow in our knowing, being and doing .
