CENTRAL TRUTH:

The business of believers is to fish for souls, and win them to Christ. Everything we do in and outside the Church is to reflect this goal.

MEMORY VERSE Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matt 4:19 NKJV

TEXT: Pr. 11: 30; Daniel 12: 2-3; Matt. 9: 35-38; 4: 19-20; 2 Corinth. 5: 18-21

Topic: Witnessing

INTRODUCTION;

A witness is a person who testifies to what he or she has seen, heard, or otherwise experienced (Acts 4:20; 2 Peter 1:16). NKJV

To be a witness of Jesus Christ is to influence others for Jesus Christ through prayer, friendship, our lifestyle, and our communication. Sharing Christ with others is the most exciting and rewarding experience a Christian can ever know. ”If I could get 300 men who fear nothing but God and who hate nothing but sin, I would set the world on fire”. John Wesley. A good witness spends at least 15 minutes daily to read the Bible, at least15 minutes daily to pray to God and at least minutes daily to witness to others.

Acts 1:3-11

It is important to understand the context of this passage. Forty days earlier, Jesus was crucified and had subsequently risen from the dead. This was His last appearance, before He ascended into heaven.

1.  According to verses 4 and 5, what did Jesus command the disciples to do?                            2. Why did Jesus command them to wait in Jerusalem?

3. What did Jesus tell the disciples would happen to them after they received the gift of the Holy Spirit? (See also John 15:26,27)

 4. In verse 8, Jesus named the geographical areas in which His followers were to be witnesses. He started in Jerusalem, the city where they were at that moment. Then He moved out to more distant areas. The principle of Jesus' instruction about witnessing is still the same today. Where is your Jerusalem, Samaria and Judea?

 5. 1 Peter 3:15 What does it mean for you to set apart Christ as Lord in your heart?

 6. Matthew 9:35-38. In verse 36, Jesus was an example of what makes someone an effective witness. Can you identify what it is?

7. Who qualify as a witness of Jesus Christ?

8. Apart from  these: Culture; intolerance; the fear of losing friends; the insecurity of not having the right answers; persecution;  lack of conviction that people are lost; The failure to live a consistent Christian life. What other reasons prevents some people from witnessing?                                                                                                                                      9. What should be our message?

The Gospel- Jesus saves (1 Corinth.15:3-4 NIV). The Divinity of Jesus, That He Is the Savior of the World (1 John 4:14) NKJV

The Love of God (John 3:16; Ro 5: 8) NKJV
The Forgiveness of God (Acts10:42, 43). NKJV;  The Grace of God (Acts 20:24). NKJV
The Hope of Eternal Life (1 Peter 3:15) NKJV
; Jesus the only way (John 14:6; Acts 4: 12); Consequences of rejecting Christ (John 3: 36; Mk 16: 16; 1 John 5:12)

 10. How do we witness for Jesus? Lifestyle, personal (Ro. 10:14; Jn. 4; Acts 8: 34 -38; 20:20 ), Mass (Acts 2), Hospitals and Prisons, Music and drama, Telephone, Friendship, Radio, internet, Literature, Letter writing etc

Read : The business of believers is to fish for souls, and win them to Christ. Everything we do in and outside the Church is to reflect this goal. Fishermen take great pains, and expose themselves to great perils, so do believers; and they have need of wisdom. If many a draught brings home nothing, yet they must go on                                                                     11. Why has the Lord chosen us according to John 15: 6

12. What was Jesus command to the demon possessed man in Mark 5: 19

13. What did the Samaritan woman did after accepting Jesus in John 4: 28-29?

14. What does God promise those who witness? Matt. 10: 32; Dan 12: 3

OTHER WAYS OF WITNESSING  FOR CHRIST:

a. NOT ONLY BY WHAT WE SAY, BUT BY WHAT WE ARE.

Professing Christians are, in fact, the only Bible that the majority of unconverted people read.

 b. we are to exhibit the magnetic power of the Cross -- let them manifest His spirit, His love, His deep compassion for men in their misery, and His readiness to help and save them, and through them, without word or deed, prejudice will be melted down, hatred will be subdued, and men and women will be won to light and love.

c. A good farm is the best witness to a farmer; a good painting to an artist; a good book to the author; cures are the best witnesses to doctors; and Christ's cures, His miracles wrought in souls, are His most effective witnesses.

d. A Christian man one day said to a friend, 'Under whose preaching were you converted?' 'Nobody's,' was the answer; 'it was under my aunt's 'practicing.'"

e. A report of a report is a cold thing and of small value; but a report of what we have witnessed and experience ourselves comes warmly upon men's hearts. Mere formal description of faith and its blessings falls flat on the ear; but when a sincere believer tells of his own experience of the Lord's faithfulness, it has a great attraction about it

 CONLUSION:

We are ambassadors for Christ, as we are sent to do what He would do were He personally present. We are to make known, and to explain, and enforce the terms on which God is willing to be reconciled to people. We are not to negotiate on any new terms, nor to change those which God has proposed, nor to follow their own plans or devices, but we are simply to urge, explain, state, and enforce the terms on which God is willing to be reconciled. We are to seek the honor of the sovereign who has sent us forth, and to seek to do His only will. We are not to promote our own welfare; not to seek honor, dignity, or emolument; but to transact the business which the Son of God would engage in were he again personally on the earth.

ACTION STEP: Can you identify 3 people you know who may be interested in hearing the good news of the gospel? Take a moment and pray that God would give you an opportunity to communicate the gospel to them.
