CENTRAL TRUTH:

There is a difference between acknowledging or accepting Jesus as your savor and committing your life to him. Christians are called to a way of life that is radically different from that of the world.

MEMORY VERSE: Then Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men." Mark 1:17 NKJV"

TEXT: Matt. 4: 18-22; 9: 9; Mk 1: 16-20; Jn 1: 12, 35-50; 17: 18-; Lk 5: 1-11; 14: 25-27; 2 Corinth 5: 18-21; Eph 1: 4-6

TOPIC: THE CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP

INTRODUCTION: Jesus did not just seek converts or casually asked (call) people to believe in Him neither did He call people to a religious organization or experience. He had something more demanding in mind. He called people to: a) A way of life (Matt 5: 13-16).

b) Forsake their own lives and follow Him (Luke 14: 26-28).

c) Be his disciples which he is still doing today (Matt. 4: 18-19).

 d) To be fishers of men (matt 4: 19).

AN OVER LOOKED MINISTRY: Today we have western brand of Christianity; we no longer know what it means to be a disciple, we now have SHALLOW Christians who have not truly realized  the life surrendering commitment to which He is calling us (Jer 6: 16; Pr 22: 28; 23: 10). Today we have:

1) minimal follow up   2) less true discipling of believers , hence we have;

3) Carnal minded Christians who are

4) shallow in their knowledge of God

5) Lukewarm in their commitment

6) little or no impact on the world around them

 7) abandoned without spiritual parenting, so,

8) Most Christians are not true disciples of Jesus Christ.  Example: There is a report that 50 million Americans claim to be Christians and that the number is growing every year. If that is true, what impact are they making on the moral standard of the nation which is approaching a point of no return? The report goes on to say that only 12% of these take their beliefs seriously enough that they have much effect on their lives.
